I choose to work as a jeweller because the materials bring with them their own attributes and challenge me to capture colour, texture and alchemy on a tiny canvas. An attraction to organic forms is what shapes my style, while nature is what inspires and motivates me. Solace comes to me from nature and I am often captivated by the seasons. The enchanting differences between each often call to me to be captured in my work.
My work often stretches the limits of the materials. Glass, when heated, is liquid, while metal is a solid. Combining the two draws my imagination to a different place and often presents a large challenge. Metal, being strong and supportive can also flow and shape itself into something completely different from its original form. While glass can be fragile, it can also be transformed into a solid structure that can last decades and be passed between generations. I think viewers are most intrigued by the materials I use and are often surprised to learn what the composition actually is.
